Howdy folks! I grew up in Sorel PQ where Canada Steamship Lines used to dock 3 beautiful white ships that used to cruise the St Lawrence in the summer time till the late 60's. Does anyone has any information on how I could get blue prints on those ships. PS I really miss the water, it's not like the port of Dallas or Ft Worth habor have been busy with ship traffic lately !
What are the scales? For instance, the tugboat. Personally, I'm looking for 1/24th and 1/87th scales, but can probably use other scales in foreground/background situations. But, if I don't know what the scale is, I won't buy, and will most likely write your site off as a model source.

Hi Esther! You shipped my GLF 24 on a Monday and I got it on wed. Fast Service! Delighted with the kit! Was going to wait till I finished a diorama for a man in Ogden, Utah but worked overtime on it and Started on my boat! Hull is now done and hatch covers layed out and main deck is being cut! Nice to have a kit that is not a shake the box kit! Our local hobby shop owner wants to put it on display when I am finished. He has one of my dio's on display there now. Found your site in Finescale Modeler displaying the Amoco Indiana. I worked at the Sturgeon Bay Shipyard when most of the newer 700 and 1000 foot freighters were built. Now maybe I can have one in my Hobby room. Would like to get a Car Ferry of either the Spartan or Viking. My father helped build them at Manitowoc Wi, I helped repair them 30 years later. Very nice looking models. Hope your business does well.

Sure glad to have found this site and look forward to purcahsing a Great lakes bulk carrier especially one of the Edmund Fitzgerald. I have always been fasinated with ships and have enjoyed putting models together since I was a kid. I enjoy taking photos of the freighters, lighthouses and have made several trips to Whitefish Point, Sault Ste. Marie and lighthouse in the U.P. and while doing so I can only image what it must be like to be out on one of the great lakes on one of those great vessels, a Great Lakes Freighter.
Do you have any great lakes bulk carrier models in "N" scale? Also, how about fittings. I was given to hull blanks in that scale, but feel helpless to do anything without either fittings or plans. One blank is about 32" long, the other about 18". GREAT to see your page. I am very interested in your plastic kits, but they are too large. Naturally, a smaller scale would include less detail, but that's OK.

1. Would like to have a 2-foot section in middle removable so can display in diorama (4 feet) or on its own as full length. Anyone know how to make precision cuts through hull and deck? 2. Has anyone used expandable foam in hull interior (after deck attached) for superior strength?
I retired from US Navy in 1977, and rode eight ships during that career, and while in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan, I was fortunate enough to see the freighter, Middletown come through the locks, headed down, and then I learned she's a WW II veteran with lots and lots of other history thrown in. Would you happen to stock a kit of the Middletown? Thank you.
Great site! What a relief to see lakeboat kits, AT LAST! I'm considering using one of the HO kits as a "model of a model"- I really want to finish a lake freighter in O scale. I'm a member of the Model Railroad Club of Toronto, which appeared in June 2002 Model Railroader magazine. We already have a boat in our harbour, the "Coleman Carrier" which I think was based on the "Canadian Carrier", an ocean-going freighter that was sold to the Japanese in the '30s and sunk during WWII! It's sort of freelanced and a bit rough, 360' in O scale (about 5 or 6 feet long) but is still an impressive model. I would like to make it a companion. This "Coleman Carrier" was made in about 1966, and is wooden. Want to know a problem with wooden models? THEY WARP! This old waterline model won't sit level anymore. Here's how I'd like to build my new one, the "Hamiltonian": make a frame of 1/2" x 3/16" brass, then solder 0.020" photoetched brass plates to it. Has anyone done this? Is this a viable plan? Keep in mind a brass model is worth more in the future, possibly even showing up on a collector's tv show after you are dead! One more thing: Does anyone know what the "Hamiltonian"'s colors were?

It had a very large white stern wheelhouse, etc. and what looked to be about 4 towers , with unloading conveyors, attached to each one, spaced along the boat. I'm a tourguide at Cleveland's Steamship Mather Museum and won one of your 24" models at our Christmas party (though I remember when you were down over the summer to exhibit.) It's interesting that you list Mather Museum colors as opposed to the original Cleveland-Cliffs colors, such as you do list for Toledo's Boyer Museum. I'm going to use the original colors for my model. But the new Mather colors (white cabins) are good because the museum now represents the entire industry, not merely Cleveland-Cliffs. Besides, Oglebay Norton Co. contributed paint to the museum project.

We've been receiving MANY requests for the Fitz kit. Plans are to have it ready for Christmas. Due to large amount of requests, supply of the kits might be limited. Nice Kits! I've just started model ship building as a side hobby. I recently built from scratch a wood full line bulk freighter its 42" long. It came out real nice.
